Our Founder and Inspiration
Bonnie Chapin started out in retail with a small store in Brooklyn Heights called "BY HAND" in the 1970s. There she specialized in yarn, fabric, macrame materials and classes, creating a space for local craftspeople to convene and create. After becoming more interested in the handknits and silhouetes of the small, mostly woman-owned designers popping up in the mid-eighties, she decided to move into fashion, opening Abigail Rose & Lily Too in 1986. The store was named after Bonnie's two youngest daughters, Abigail Chapin and Lily Chapin, when they were young children. They grew up in the shop and now work alongside their mother in all aspects of the trade when they are not touring as working musicians in their band The Chapin Sisters.
